Is your connection good enough for GeForce NOW?
GeForce NOW runs the game on NVIDIA’s hardware and streams you the video — every keypress makes a round trip to a data center before you see the result. NVIDIA’s official bar is under 80 ms latency (under 40 ms is ideal) plus steady bandwidth: 15–45 Mbps depending on the tier you want. Steady is the operative word — and it’s the thing speed tests don’t measure. The test below checks latency, spikes, loss and real download throughput, and grades you per tier.

Two things the table can’t show: packet loss turns into blocky artifacts and dropped frames even at 100 Mbps, and latency spikes are felt as sudden input mush. If the test flags either, fix that first — bandwidth upgrades won’t help.
How to read a fail
Latency over 80 ms
That’s mostly geography and routing: the round trip from your house to the data center. Check which region GeForce NOW assigned you (Settings → Server Location) — if it’s not the nearest one, that’s your fix. If the region is right and ping is still high, your ISP’s route may be the long way around; the VPN A/B test tells you whether a different path exists.
Bandwidth under your tier
Run the test at the time of day you actually play. If evenings are worse, the line is congested when it matters. Note that Wi-Fi can be the bottleneck all by itself — NVIDIA explicitly recommends Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, and our Wi-Fi vs Ethernet guide shows how to measure your own link.
Spikes, jitter or loss flagged
The classic cause is bufferbloat: your router queues the stream behind downloads, cloud backups or someone’s 4K video. A router with SQM/Cake queue management fixes it without a faster plan.
Honest methodology. LagScope measures from your browser to our nearest node (US or EU) — not to NVIDIA’s data centers, which only NVIDIA’s own app can probe. Your path to a nearby GeForce NOW data center is usually in the same ballpark, so treat this as a close estimate, not the exact number. Spikes, jitter and loss measured on this path affect a cloud stream exactly as they are. The bandwidth figure is a short browser download test to our node, not your line’s theoretical capacity.
Frequently asked questions
What ping do you need for GeForce NOW?
NVIDIA requires under 80 ms round-trip latency to a GeForce NOW data center and recommends under 40 ms for the best experience. Above 80 ms the stream still works but inputs feel delayed — cloud gaming adds the video round-trip on top of your ping, so every millisecond counts twice.
How much bandwidth does GeForce NOW use?
About 15 Mbps for 720p60, 25 Mbps for 1080p60, 35 Mbps for 1440p120, and roughly 45 Mbps for 4K120 on Ultimate — and it must be steady. A line that averages 100 Mbps but dips, or whose latency spikes when the house is busy, will still stutter.
Why does GeForce NOW stutter when my internet is fast?
“Fast” usually means bandwidth. Stutter comes from latency spikes, jitter and packet loss — most often Wi-Fi interference, bufferbloat when the line is busy, or distance to the nearest data center. None of these show up on a speed test; a stability test like the one above does.
